Exploring the Beauty of Cozumel Island – A Perfect Cruise Port Stop
February 6, 2026 | A 7-Day Cruise | By Mark Eviota
One of the highlights of our 7-Day Royal Caribbean cruise was visiting the beautiful island of Cozumel, Mexico. As soon as we arrived at the Cozumel cruise port, we were greeted by breathtaking views of turquoise Caribbean waters and soft white sand beaches. It truly felt like stepping into a tropical paradise.

Island tours & excursions
Instead of booking a large group excursion from the cruise line, we decided to hire a local driver for a private island tour around Cozumel. For about $100 total for five people, we were able to explore the island for about 3–4 hours, making it a very affordable and flexible option for our group.
Our first stop was a tequila tasting experience, which is one of the popular things to do in Cozumel. We learned a little about how tequila is made and sampled a few different varieties. It was a fun and interesting way to experience a small part of Mexican culture.

Playa Palancar
Next, we headed to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, Playa Palancar Beach. This beach is known for its crystal-clear water, relaxing atmosphere, and soft white sand. The beach club charged $23 per person for access to the beach and hotel amenities, but it was well worth it. We enjoyed the peaceful beach, took photos, and spent some time soaking in the Caribbean sunshine.

Downtown Cozumel
Before returning to the ship, our driver took us through the main town of Cozumel, which had a lively and welcoming atmosphere. The town is filled with colorful shops, local restaurants, and souvenir stores, making it a great place to walk around and experience the local culture.
Overall, our Cozumel island tour during our cruise stop was an unforgettable experience. From tequila tasting to relaxing on a beautiful beach, it was the perfect way to explore one of the most popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean.
