Pointing DNS Servers

Quick Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Request DNS pointing
🔹 Submit a request in IONOS to point your domain from GoDaddy.
  2. Get new name servers
🔹 IONOS will email the new name servers. Copy them and replace the old ones in GoDaddy.
⚠️ Always back up everything before making changes.
  3. Wait for propagation
🔹 Typically takes about 10 minutes. Check IONOS until the status shows complete.
  4. Update MX records (optional)
🔹 After the new name servers are active, update MX records for email if needed.
    ⚠️ Backup email accounts first.
  5. Add SSL certificate
🔹 In the IONOS Control Panel, add SSL to your new domain.
  6. Transfer your website
🔹 Move all website files to the new domain.
  7. Update WordPress URLs
🔹 Log in to WordPress → Settings > General → update Site Address (URL) and WordPress Address (URL) to https.
  8. Be patient
🔹 Changes may take a few minutes to fully apply.
  9. Update destination folder
🔹 In IONOS Dashboard, set the new domain’s destination folder to match your WordPress site folder.
  10. Check DNS propagation
🔹 Confirm everything is working at https://www.whatsmydns.net/.
